I really enjoy working with the Peterson family; we totally get each other! Our shoots get better every year, this is our third year of family portraits, and we all know the flow, and they are now pros at taking amazing family pictures.

Family Session Location

We chose to do their family session at Marsh Creek State Park, located in Downingtown, PA. It was my first time visiting, and it won’t be my last. The day turned out to be gloomy, but it was a beautiful day, and even though it was towards the end of November, we got lucky with good weather. I immediately got inspired by the different backdrop and scenery options that Marsh Creek offers. I dragged my brothers to join me, and we explored the park for about an hour before our session. It was a fun little adventure and time spent with my siblings. They joined me as I mentally planned The Peterson’s Session. I always like to have a plan in place before I get together with my clients; it helps move the sessions and keep us on schedule.

Family Session Flow

We jumped right in and started by the water, getting some mom and dad portraits. The sky was beautifully gloomy and airy. I tried to get the boys to loosen up and took some single pictures of each of them standing on rocks, it seemed to work, and we got some pretty good shots of each of them. We moved along to some beautiful foliage where we got some family portraits, brother portraits, and some images with the boys and each parent. We moved onto a beautiful trail surrounded by tall grass. I was able to get a little creative here and had the boys have a little bit of fun. They seemed to have enjoyed playing around with the grass…boys will be boys! We ended the Peterson session in their backyard, they have a very handsome Great Dane named Apollo, and it wouldn’t be right if he were left out. We got some shots of the whole family with Apollo; he was all about it. I feel like he is even posing in some of the pictures.

The Final Edits

The final gallery looks so good. We did good work together. I love the clean look and the pop of purple and green from the family’s outfits. I am delighted with the variety of portraits. It’s nice to see each of the boy’s personalities show up throughout the gallery. They have a great family dynamic, and I am always so happy to work with them.

Here are a few portraits from the final gallery, please enjoy!
